Week 3
.... and to start this week, the official weigh is (drum roll please), 16st 10lbs ... thats another 4lb drop, yesssssss. So that is the surplus water in the body gone: hopefully some of those nasty little (but bloated) fat cells will be next!!!
Strangely enough its been seven days of NON-drastic changes. Subtle changes making a big difference to the weight and to the way one feels. In saying this, for me there is still a long LONG way to go. My body is not the ahrrmmm ... the fine tuned temple it "used to be" so the tuning will need to be done with careful consideration.
Organs like the heart have to be looked after more carefully if they are to last the lifetime it said on the box.
My food intake (energy wise) has not changed too much but the time of day I ate and the type of food has been changed a little. Keeping a consistent (please see earlier porridge recipe) breakfast has really helped. Giving me the boost of the slow release energy needed to see me through until lunch. The other change has been not eating too late ... well for four out of the seven days. Also an increase in my water intake (... sparkling for me) has also helped.
A lot of people confuse feeling thirsty with feeling hungry so they eat when their body wants them to drink something. When you are dehydrated, your fat cells become harder to break down. So anyone actually trying to diet will find it a lot harder; especially if they don't drink very much.
Lifestyle change is all about the subtle changes in almost everything we do as Humans. Living to excess in any one thing is not good but, a little of everything even the bad things (e.g. a little piece of chocolate) is do-able and will be easier over a lifetime.
A little thing that WILL make a difference is not shopping for food when hungry. And as I do all the food shopping in my household, I am my own worst nightmare; I always seem to be at the local supermarket when .... super hungry. Come-on we have all been there? Ok it may be just me and a few million others but, this is a great one to help you. I am trying to stick to the below plan, it's already helping me.
The food shopping plan for a healthier lifestyle .....
-
plan your food shopping trip ... make a list of the things you need ... (not want)
-
if you can, go shopping after a meal
-
again when you can, ... go when the store is not so busy... it will be less stressful and will allow you to be in control and hopefully reduce impulse buying
-
don’t buy food that is not going to be eaten by your next shopping trip
-
as a boost ... walk to the store ... do your shop and catch a taxi or better still the bus home. This should reduce the amount you buy and gives you great exercise in the process
I like chilling at home ... on the sofa watching TV etc. My slippers are so comfy and the thought of removing them to put my trainers on, really does take some effort. Last week however I won a few of the battles. The need to do some activity has to be emphasised for its importance towards helping oneself on this kind of journey.
The first few steps of exercise are always the hardest but when you take them you will want to take some more. To reiterate, the positive effect on the metabolism cannot be underestimated ... don’t forget I have to keep telling myself this too. Change for the better always involves mind games; but don’t let the mind win ... the mind is not you but it will try to control you ... always be aware of this!
To help take these few steps I have found that getting myself back into a sensible routine has helped. Our bodies love routine. Knowing and trying to keep to the time we eat, exercise, sleep etc helps with the daily battle. All aspects of our bodily functions will work more efficiently when we introduce routine.
I have started routine with a regular breakfast and waking the dogs before this morning meal. Really simple and you can do this too ... you don't need the dogs but you can still get out for a twenty minute walk.
That’s my lot for this week, but for next ...
-
meditation ... the greatest humans throughout history have benefited from it; why should I or you be any different
-
my lifestyle targets in more detail
-
keeping up with the Jones's ... it's bad for you
