The Glynneath Five originated in 1986. It was supposed to be the Neath Valley Race – held at Glynneath. A Five Mile road race was set up by Arthur Phillips, an experienced runner.
The race is different to other races – it encourages all types of runners – from beginners to international class runners. It is a Race and Fun Run combined.
A RACE FOR ALL
Absolute beginners are welcome and can win a prize – Improvers Trophies (beating last year's time). This is unique in a Road Race in South Wales.
KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY
Father and Son, Father and Daughter, Mother and Son, Mother and Daughter, Husband and Wife Trophies are part of the 100 plus extensive prize list on offer

Report on Charity Bike Ride Held at Llanelli Beach on 11 July 2010 in Aid of The British Lung Foundation - Carmarthenshire Area
The day started off at around 8.30 am with the setting up of the starters marquee and Start/Finish inflatable. Weather was excellent if a bit windy.
Members of the Round Table then proceeded to set up the marquee with the entrants registration area and prize table as well as water and other sundries. Two tablers went to put directional signs out for the 31 mile ride up the Gwendraeth Valley.
People started arriving from around 10.15 onwards to register for the event and by the time 11.00 am came we had 10 adults doing the 31 mile bike ride, and 20 adults and children doing the 8 mile ride to Burry Port Harbour and back.
The first child rider arrived back at around 11.55 having covered the 8 miles in under an hour. The first adult back arrived at around 12.35 having covered the 31 mile course in 1 hour 35 minutes. I will let you know his name, but for the record he is a 16 year old Triathlete who was using this as a warm down having done a triathlon in Eaton the day before.
Money raised in total will be over £400 and this will cover the initial costs of the event such as posters, medals, T-shirts, etc..
We have agreed to give a donation of £400 to The British Lung Foundation out of our Charities account.
For next year’s event it was agreed to hold this on Sunday the 5th June and our main targets will be schools again, but promotion to start in January 2011 to give schools plenty of time to prepare and promote the event.
