CHARITY FUNDRAISING

Jo's Cervical Cancer TrustHUMAN BEING ACTIVE ... HELPS CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS.
HBA is a social enterprise set up to promote a healthy active lifestyle. Part of this is to encourage people of all standards, abilities and ages to take part in activity based events.

All the events directly organised by HBA support a range of worthy causes either by funding and or raising the awareness. Where possible, part of the funds raised by the entry fees into the event are donated at the end of each year to the projects and causes that are of real benefit to the community. Also funds can be raised directly by the participant for the official charities and causes supported by the event.

Additionally participants can and do take part in the HBA events and raise many thousands of pounds for charities of their choice.

FINDING THE CHARITY OR CAUSE TO SUPPORT
The process to determine the charities and worthy causes that HBA supports through its events is reviewed annually. Each event has a one main or official charity / worthy cause and a sub-set of other cause that HBA will promote to the event participants and other interested parties for the duration of the event schedule.

Applicants are received and reviewed by HBA to determine their impact on the welfare of the community. The causes that are suitable and meet HBA's criteria for help are invited to be a partner in the event for that year. The is no pre-determined limit to the number of years that any one cause can be an official main or sub-charity of a HBA event.

  • HBA looks for charities and or causes that are proven, cost-effective, have "room for more funding," and are transparent
  • We cast the net as wide as we can to consider as many charities or causes as possible, reviewing dozens of their websites (if applicable) and more deeply investigating the most promising ones

CharitiesCRITERIA
The criteria thereafter for formally accepting a charity or cause into the HBA events environment is as follows .....

HBA seeks charities and or causes that it can confidently recommend to individual, casual (i.e. non-professional, non-expert) donors. we feel that such charities should be .....

  • Proven. Casual donors should not fund experiments; they should fund charities that can and do demonstrate their impact in terms of lives changed
  • Cost-effective. HBA seeks charities that provide high return in terms of changing many lives (significantly) for relatively little money. Available cost-effectiveness estimates involve a great deal of uncertainty and approximation; we consider all programs within a certain range (which varies by cause) to be "highly cost-effective" and distinguish between them based on other factors
  • Scalable, i.e., able to use more funds productively. It isn't enough to identify a strong program; HBA seeks to identify strong programs that can productively use more donor funding. As such, we do not recommend projects and programs within charities and causes and we do not recommend charities that show signs of being overfunded
  • Transparent. All of the information necessary to assess the three criteria above should be shared, upon request, if not publicly on the charity's website. Donors should prefer charities that they - or others like them - can personally vet and hold accountable if they so choose
